大学史資料館について

中央大学は、1885年に英吉利法律学校として設立されました。その後、校名は変遷しましたが、1905年に中央大学と改称され現在にいたっています。同年の二十年史を皮切りに、以来節目ごとに編纂物が刊行されてきました。1980年には百年史の編纂のため、大学史編纂課が設置され（のちに大学史資料課）、同課を中心に資料の収集・保存がおこなわれてきましたが、そうした資料をまとまった形で公開できる施設はありませんでした。本資料館は、本学の歴史および本学関係者の事績等について、調査をするだけでなく、その成果を在学生の教育に生かし、更に広く社会にも発信するための施設です。

「常設展」では、創立以来の本学のあゆみを知ることができます。「企画展」では大学の歴史の特徴的な側面を取り上げる予定です。

１つの大学が保有する資料は社会の共有の知的資源であり、本資料館は本学の発展のみならず、大学にかかわる学術の進歩に大いに貢献できるものと信じます。

Chuo University was originally founded in 1885 under the name Igirisu Horitsu Gakko (the English Law School). It underwent a name change in 1905 and has been known as Chuo University ever since. Since its 20-year history mark in 1905, the university has published compilations at various milestones. In 1980, an office for compiling the history of the university, which would eventually become the University Archives Section, was established to create the university's Centennial History. This office has been pivotal in gathering and preserving materials.

Until now, there has not been a facility to make these materials available to the public in a comprehensive manner. The Chuo University Archives not only conducts research on the university's history and the accomplishments of people affiliated with the university, but also uses these findings to educate current students and shares the findings with society at large.

The Archive's permanent exhibits give visitors an overview of the university's history since its founding. Additionally, temporary special exhibitions will highlight unique aspects of the university's history.

We believe that archival materials held by a university are the common intellectual resources of society, and that this institution can make important contributions not only to the growth of our university, but also to the advancement of scholarship related to universities in general.
