Career Development
Employment Climate
For students finishing in the 2009 academic year (graduating in March 2010), the employment climate has been drastically affected by the global economic slowdown that began in autumn 2008. Despite this severe climate, Chuo University graduates from all faculties are showing great success at finding employment with well-known and influential corporations, including Japan’s leading companies. The employment rate of Chuo University graduates was 98.2%, a figure virtually unchanged from the previous year.
Specific areas where graduates gained employment covered a very wide range, including distribution (wholesale and retail), information services, finance, insurance, manufacturing, and mass media. Many graduates are now in executive or managing positions in these fields.
Graduates of Chuo University also traditionally perform well in qualifying examinations and civil service exams, with one of Japan’s top success rates in exams of all kinds giving the University a respected track record for excellence.
In order to deepen parents’ understanding of career paths and the job market, and how the University’s support system provides assistance in these areas, branches of the Parents Liaison Association hold parents’ meetings every summer, and career-oriented events every autumn.
At these meetings, personnel from the Career Design Support Center Office provide the latest information regarding the employment climate and career path choices, along with the forecast for the coming year and thereafter, and explain what students are doing in their search for jobs. Some Office branches take advantage of the Chuo University alumni network and gain the cooperation of prominent local alumni, who are invited to address meetings on the current climate for local companies and their staffing plans for the next year.
