Language and Multimedia Laboratories
Language Laboratories, Audiovisual Laboratories, and Multimedia Laboratories are available on the first floor of Building 2 on the Tama Campus and offer a means of improving the quality of foreign language education as well as enhancing the educational benefit of general learning in areas besides foreign languages and specialist subjects.
Aside from faculty classes, the labs are also used for special language lab classes in English, German, French, Spanish, Chinese, and Italian. There are also audiovisual private study rooms where students can freely use audiovisual lesson materials, and IT private study rooms where personal computers are available for their use.
Language Laboratories (3 labs; 2 seat 52 and 1 seats 48)
The Language Laboratories allow teachers to use two types of audiovisual teaching materials at the same time, to monitor learning, to communicate with individual students and allow them to communicate with each other, to correct pronunciation, and also to record lesson material. The language-learning process is significantly enhanced by the use of these facilities. Lessons are conducted using a wide variety of source materials, including texts to be displayed using document cameras, CD-ROMs by means of computers, and lesson materials off the Internet. For viewing materials, there are 14-inch monitor screens on the desks and a large screen for viewing of the overhead projector. All apparatus is operated from a control panel on the teacher's desk.

The Audiovisual Laboratories have the capacity to make use of cassette decks and CD players for listening comprehension practice; and VHS, LD, and DVD players and document cameras for viewing materials that can be displayed on a large screen by means of a video projector. All apparatus can be operated from a control panel on the teacher's desk. Sound and visuals are melded together to create a virtual reality for the user.
The Laboratories are fitted with chairs with writing tables. The chairs can be arranged in any desired configuration, making it possible for the room to be used for a variety of purposes.
Multimedia Laboratories
Room 2101 and Room 2102 (each seats 48)
In these rooms, students can study in stationary booths. Each booth is equipped with a computer (Windows 2000), and in the middle of the booth's desktop is a display on which materials transmitted from the teacher's computer or AV control station can be seen. Lessons can be provided through the use of the Internet, DVD, and a variety of computer software.
Room 2110 (room seats 110)
This room is equipped with movable folding chairs with writing tables. A computer (Windows 2000) is installed on the teacher's desk, and at the front of the room is a 120-inch large screen on which materials from the Internet, DVD, or a variety of computer software can be shown.
IT Private Study Room
One of the three Multimedia Laboratories is made available to students as an IT private study room during 6th and 7th periods.
Audiovisual Private Study Room
This room is for the use of students wishing to conduct private study. The room is fitted with VCR, LD, DVD, and CD players, and cassette decks on which students can listen to or view a wide range of materials such as films or language studies software stored in the Multimedia Language Laboratories Office or satellite broadcasts (BBC and CNN). The students can also use the equipment to listen to or view software they bring to the facilities.
