Corridor of Knowledge

The "Corridor of Knowledge" is a series of educational programs based on the intellectual assets of Chuo University, which has succeeded to turning a simple TV series into a treasure box of learning. Co-produced with a cable network (Hachioji Telemedia), as Japan's first project, the program aims to provide a better understanding of the university, as well as more information on the faculties' research studies to the local citizens. The goal is to contribute to the community as much as possible, also providing the opportunity for the faculty to work closely with the media.

The program began in 2001, broadcasted in over 20 cable networks around Japan, centered in areas including Hachioji, Tama, Tachikawa, Inagi, and Hino cities, accessible to over 3 million households. In recent years with the spread of broadband and increase in internet video viewing, the program is widely delivered through YouTube, iTunes U, and podcast.

Additionally this program introduces various projects that contribute to the community, taking on a bidirectional initiative from an early timing, interactively linking the viewers to the university. The program follows up with the recent viewer media preferences, advertising through various SNS tools such as Twitter and Facebook, regularly sharing anecdotes, faculty and program information.

The title "Corridor of Knowledge" was named by Mitsuo Kono, Professor of Faculty of Policy Studies, who led the project, in hopes that many people will benefit from the knowledge transmitted by the university, which will then return back to the community as new knowledge.

The Corridor of Knowledge is viewed by many populations beyond geographical and generation barriers, including alumni, undergraduates, working people and housewives who are interested in taking courses, or retired people who are motivated to learn at the university. The Corridor of Knowledge has expanded its horizons starting from a local community learning program to a global communication tool.

TV production was also a new challenge as an education and research method at the university. The faculties who worked on the making of the program were able to experience a new perspective using a new media in their research and courses, which will dramatically make a difference in the next generation of higher education.

We are happy to provide a world-wide educational program that covers a variety of events from the perspective of "media and research," "media and education," and "media and the internet integration." We strive to contribute to the society taking a new approach, as more people will be able to enjoy and be satisfied with the ongoing contents in the future.
