Professor Takumi Taguchi of the Department of French Studies, Faculty of Letters Contributes to Documentary Production for European Public Broadcaster "Arte" in Recognition of His Scholarly Work

On April 29, 2026, Professor Takumi Taguchi of the Department of French Studies, Faculty of Letters was interviewed for a documentary by "Arte," a joint French-German public television network.

The documentary, provisionally titled Hiroshima, le braqueur et l’écrivain, is based on Hiroshima is Everywhere, a work by the philosopher Günther Anders, who is widely known for his anti-nuclear activism.
Through an analysis of the correspondence between Anders and a pilot involved in the atomic bombing, the program addresses issues surrounding "nuclear energy and technology" that continue to resonate in the 21st-century world. In recognition of Professor Taguchi’s scholarly work in this field, including his book The Philosophy for Abandoning Nuclear Power (co-authored with Yoshiyuki Sato, Jimbun Shoin, 2016) and his research papers on Anders, the production team made a strong request for his cooperation, which led to his participation in this interview.

The interview was conducted by director Jean-Christophe Klotz and lasted approximately two hours at the joint research office of the Department of French Studies. The documentary is scheduled to be broadcast across several European countries, including France, Germany, and Switzerland, as early as the end of this year, or by early 2027 at the latest.
