Faculty of Commerce Students Conduct Field Research in New York
Students of the Faculty of Commerce "Seminar II" (taught by Professor Sumitaka Ushio) conducted an overseas study program in New York from February 17 to 25, 2026, where they visited Sony Corporation of America and KPMG.
The Ushio Seminar conducts overseas training programs annually in various locations around the world, striving to develop individuals capable of succeeding on a global stage. During this program, students engaged in discussions—both in Japanese and English—on topics including accounting- and tax-related business practices, differences between Japanese and American cultures, and the distinctions in recruitment pathways, working styles, and required skill sets between locally hired employees and those assigned abroad from Japan.
Furthermore, based on Professor Ushio’s book, Becoming an Accounting Professional at Sony (Chuokeizai-sha, Inc.), published late last year, students discussed approaches to developing accounting talent at both universities and corporations.
*The travel expenses for this study trip were partially covered by the ‘Distinctive Faculty Education Aid’ provided by the Faculty of Commerce, Chuo University.
