Faculty of Global Informatics: Professor Jun Iio Delivers Lecture at Chiang Mai University
Jun Iio, Professor of the Faculty of Global Informatics, specializes in Human-Computer Interaction and Behavioral Information Analysis. His publications include Introduction to AI Development with Python: How to Build AI Using Libraries, Cyber-Physical: Basic Education for Engineers to "Survive" in the Digital Age, and Universities Going Online: Educational Practices and Observations during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Professor Iio recently delivered a lecture titled "Developing and Operating the Dialogbook" to approximately 40 second-year students at the College of Arts, Media and Technology (CAMT), Chiang Mai University.
During the lecture, he introduced the "SMILE Project," which supports international collaborative classes promoted by Chuo University, and the "Dialogbook System" that underpins its operation.
The SMILE Project is an intercultural exchange education project utilizing online video conferencing systems. In the 2024 academic year, Chuo University launched the "CU-SMILE Project" as its own version of this initiative under the "Project for Promoting Educational Innovation."
In his lecture, Professor Iio explained the Dialogbook system—which efficiently supports this project—using specific examples. He covered methodologies for requirements definition, design, and development, as well as the collection of improvement proposals through operation, and key points for version control and system evolution.
Furthermore, to improve sustainability in small-scale development, he proposed a development methodology called Operation-Driven Development (ODD) to increase the "truck factor," capturing the interest of participants by addressing its connection to DevOps (a framework and philosophy in system development for strengthening the collaboration between development and operations to enhance efficiency) and HCD (a philosophy of product and service design centered on the human user).
