Signing Ceremony with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Malaysia) at Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai
On Saturday, July 28, 2025, a signing ceremony was held at the Malaysia Pavilion of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, for a memorandum of understanding and a student exchange agreement with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), located in Kota Samarahan, Sarawak, Malaysia, and Chuo University. Chuo’s President Hisashi Kawai and Vice President and Director of the International Center, Maki Kunimatsu attended the ceremony.
Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, also known as UNIMAS, is a national comprehensive university with approximately 16,000 students studying on its vast campus. It is highly regarded in fields such as biotechnology, biodiversity research, and agricultural informatics. In addition, UNIMAS has faculties and departments in the humanities and social sciences and actively promotes academic exchange with Japanese universities.
The Malaysia Pavilion at Expo 2025 hosted “Malaysia Higher Education Week: Study in Malaysia,” organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia, from July 21 to 26. During the event, 20 Malaysian educational institutions, including UNIMAS, presented their institutions and study-abroad programs. The signing ceremony between UNIMAS and Chuo served as the concluding event of the week, symbolizing not only the beginning of collaboration with UNIMAS but also the deepening of academic ties between Chuo and other Malaysian higher education institutions.
