Research and Development Initiative: Professor WATANABE Contributes to Signing with Turkmenistan

    On April 15th, 2025, Professor WATANABE Masataka of the Research and Development Initiative attended the business meeting with the President of Turkmenistan H.E. Mr. S. Berdimuhamedov. This business meeting also included the signing of the "Memorandum of Understanding between the Research and Development Initiative, Chuo University and the Ministry of Environmental Protection of Turkmenistan on improvement of the national greenhouse gas inventory and improving capacity on reporting under Paris Agreement." Initiative Professor Watanabe played a vital role in bridging this conclusion.

    The MOU is part of a joint project funded by Japan’s Ministry of the Environment that verifies the consistency between greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data and satellite observation data using GHG Observing Satellite (GOSAT). Chuo University has been fostering collaborative partnerships with Mongolia and other Central Asia countries, and this MOU conclusion with Turkmenistan marks our successful establishment of a cooperative partnership with all five Central Asian countries.

    Chuo University will support the development of the Biennial Transparency Report (BTR) among participating countries through Japan's satellite observation technology. Regarding Turkmenistan, the university will particularly focus on building cooperative partnerships.

    Chuo University is committed to addressing global climate change and further strengthening our cooperation with the international community.
