Faculty of Science and Engineering, Professor Kunii to Run Booth at 2025 ISIEX (2025/1/29-31)

Professor Yasuharu Kunii of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, along with his research team, will showcase their project on swarm AI robot technology for exploring a Lunar lava tube at the 2025 International Space Industry Exhibition ISIEX. Professor Kunii leads this research as a Project Manager.

The team will present their work as part of the Cabinet Office’s Moonshot Research and Development Program, which focuses on “evolvable swarm robots that can share intelligence to settle in unknown and unexplored areas.” They will highlight the advancements in swarm robotics where multiple small and lightweight agents collaborate to explore unknown environments using “network intelligence.” These swarm robots are assembled to move autonomously and perform various tasks. For the actual payload, the team aims to deploy the swarm robots to the Moon by FY2030 and explore inside an underground lava tube autonomously.
