First-ever attempt in domestic universities: Chuo to send internship students to Indian startup companies
Chuo University’s students who are taking the course of either “Global Internship (Instructor: Shinya Fujii)” offered at the Faculty of Science and Engineering, or “Internship (Instructor: Maki Kunimatsu)” at the Faculty of Global Management, are ready to work on an internship at Indian companies. Out of ten students participating to this program, four belong to the Faculty of Science and Engineering and six belong to the Faculty of Global Management.
To encourage the participants for their future, the Send-off Party was held at the Embassy of India, Tokyo on August 1. At the venue, the students had an opportunity to learn from the Ambassador the history and features of India as well as her relationship with Japan. Then, the Ambassador shared his spare time to answer all the questions from students.
The participants had a valuable experience to learn about cultural difference between Japan and India and to step into a place like an embassy they can rarely visit. The participants of the program will work as an intern at a startup company or a Japanese-affiliated company located in Bengaluru so called an Indian Silicon Valley, for a month starting from mid-August to September. The program is a part of entrepreneurship education initiated by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Through living in a country with the world largest population of approximately 1.4 billion and working with local professionals during an undergraduate student, as well as experiencing cultures and business practices unique to India, this program aims to nurture individuals who can promote the collaboration between Japan and India, and engine innovations.
It is noteworthy that Chuo University will be the first among domestic universities* to offer a class of working as an intern at local startup companies in India.
