Japan-Australia Exchange Meeting in G-square – Exchange with students from Curtin University

On Monday, November 20th, 2023, the Japan-Australia Exchange Meeting was held at G-Square, the cross-cultural exchange lounge located on the second floor of the Hilltop building in the Tama Campus. Students who are studying commerce at Curtin University (Perth, Australia), School of Business and Law visited the Tama Campus and interacted with Chuo University’s students at G-Square.

The two-week visit was realized through interactions in research between Professor Ian Phau, Professor Sean Lee of Curtin University, and Professor Takashi Teramoto of the Faculty of Commerce, Chuo University. During their study tour in Japan, students visited Japanese companies to observe and investigate how the company engages in marketing and business activities and they also experienced events of Japanese culture. On this day, they visited Sanrio Puroland in Tama City to observe and learn the marketing of this company which creates adorable characters that make a buzz around the world. After visiting the company, the students arrived at the Chuo University Tama Campus by Tama-monorail and had a campus tour guided by the students from the Faculty of Commerce, and then reached this day’s goal of G-Square.

The event started with Curtin University’s students, Chuo University’s Japanese students, and G-Square staff grouped into five. After the self-introductions, students discussed for 30 minutes the topics about the study tour in Japan, school life, the economic situations (such as food and living expenses) of students in Australia and Japan, and so on. The students from both countries got to exchange their feelings and opinions on their real lives, and each group seemed to have a great time with smiles on their faces and laughter echoing in the room.

After the students of Curtin University went back home, the students who belong to Teramoto Seminar, the Faculty of Commerce, visited Australia and attended a study tour organized by Professor Phau and Professor Lee of Curtin University.
