Chuo University hosts 2022 Japan-Netherlands Peace Exchange Event

On November 29, 2022, Chuo University hosted an international exchange event in Global Gateway Chuo, a new building on the Tama Campus. Two Dutch women and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visited Chuo to take part in the 2022 “Japanese-Dutch Peace Exchange Program.” Nearly 60 participants from Chuo, including students from the Law Faculty, international students from the Netherlands, and faculty members, attended the event.

The Dutch guests shared their childhood memories of being POWs in Indonesia during WWII, giving the students an opportunity to learn facts unavailable in textbooks or other sources. This unique event gave the students an invaluable opportunity to confront the difficult history shared by Japan and the Netherlands. In addition, all participants deepened their understanding of peace through the exchange.
