Application Guidelines for Ukrainian nationality who have been unable to study due to the Russian Government’s military invasion of Ukraine(ウクライナ国籍学生の受け入れについて)

Chuo University believes in contributing to the welfare of humanity and emphasizes the importance of equal learning opportunity for all people. As a university with a global presence, Chuo will accept students with Ukrainian nationality who have been unable to study due to the Russian Government’s military invasion of Ukraine, offering the following support.

 

Eligibility Requirements:

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  1. Those who are Ukrainian nationals.
  2. Those who have lost the opportunity to study at a university or graduate school due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
  3. Applicants must be single at the time of admission to Chuo University (Only the applicant will be accepted. Accompanying family members will not be accepted.)
  4. Those who are highly motivated to study or research at Chuo University.
  5. Those who wish to enroll in undergraduate programs must meet , and those who wish to enroll in graduate programs must meet   ①Those who have completed 12 years of school education in foreign countries (including prospective students at the time of application). ②Those who have completed 16 years of school education in foreign countries and have obtained a bachelor’s degree.
  6. Those who wish to take classes in Japanese should have Japanese proficiency to be able to attend classes or conduct research at Chuo University (Japanese Language Proficiency Test N3 level).

 

Support Period:

The support period is up to two years from April 2023. An extension of study after that period is not guaranteed. Depending on the situation in Ukraine, career planning, or the situation of obtaining or extending a student visa, the support period may be shortened. If there are no successful applicants during the stated period, Chuo will continue to recruit.

 

Support:

Chuo University will provide the following support for students who have enrolled under this support program.

  1. Life Support                          80,000 yen will be provided monthly as living expenses
  2. Accommodation Support          International Residence Chuo (at no cost)
  3. Tuition Support                      Exemption of an amount equivalent to the tuition  fees of the  Faculty or Graduate School to be attended
  4. Others                                  Travel expenses (actual travel expenses for traveling to Japan), support for obtaining a visa

 

Number of students to be accepted (starting in April 2023): 3 (total of undergraduate and graduate students)

 

Student Status:

Students will be accepted as Senka-sei, Full-time Non-degree students (those who aim to obtain credits for specific courses in undergraduate or graduate programs).

To become a full-time degree student, students are required to pass an entrance exam, such as an entrance exam for international students, and to follow admission procedures.

 

Language Support: Japanese or English

 

Available Courses: According to the Senka-sei from our partner institutions

 

Application Period: Applicants must contact the International Center (inq-grp@g.chuo-u.ac.jp) by December 20, 2022. (If you are unable to submit your documents by January 6, 2023, please contact us in advance)

 

Application Documents:

  •   Application Form (designated form)
  •   Study Plan (designated form)
  •   Agreement on Terms and Conditions (designated form)
  •   Proof of Japanese proficiency
  •   A copy of the individual’s passport
  •   A copy of proof of Ukrainian refugee status (If you are outside Japan and cannot submit, submission after arriving in Japan is accepted.)

 

The following documents can be submitted, if available.

  •   A copy of a high school graduation certificate (a copy of a university graduation certificate for those who wish to enroll in graduate programs) If it is difficult to submit these within the application period, please inform us in advance.
  •   A copy of a high school academic transcript (a copy of a university academic transcript for those who wish to enroll in graduate programs), and a copy of a certificate of enrollment. If it is difficult to submit these within the application period, please inform us in advance.
  •   Proof of English proficiency

We may ask you to submit additional documents.
