Research paper co-authored by Prof. Jawoo Park published in Food Quality and Preference

A research paper, "How early acquired phonemes present in words (or brand names) can evoke the expectations of sweet tastes," which was co-authored by Prof. Jaewoo Park of the Faculty of Commerce, has been published in Food Quality and Preference, one of the top journals in the field of food psychology.

This study demonstrates that words containing early acquired phonemes are perceived as more appropriate for a sweet (vs. bitter) food name. The findings of this study uncover the unexplored linkages between the age of acquisition of phonemes and the taste continuum and indicate that people associate phonemes with tastes based on their shared connotative meanings (e.g., pleasant for early phonemes and sweetness).
