Research paper of Research Associate Tomohisa Kojima et al. selected as Key Scientific Article by Advances in Engineering

A paper authored by Tomohisa Kojima et al., Research Associate of Department of Precision Mechanics, Faculty of Science and Engineering was selected as a Key Scientific Article by Advances in Engineering, a Canadian research establishment, and was introduced on their website.

Advances in Engineering highlights research results of particular importance among engineering articles published in major scientific journals on their website. Their covering engineering fields are Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Nanotechnology Engineering as well as General Engineering.

The selected research paper is on joint research with Associate Professor Shuichi Arikawa of Meiji University and colleagues. The authors proposed an evaluation method of dynamic fracture toughness of a metal/polymer bonding interface subject to high-strain-rate shearing using digital image correlation (DIC). By using DIC with an ultrahigh-speed video camera, they successfully located the Interfacial crack tip and evaluated reasonable fracture toughness of the interface, which had been difficult with conventional techniques.
