FOREST GATEWAY CHUO Completed

On March 16, 2021, the construction of FOREST GATEWAY CHUO, a new space for learning, was completed. It is located next to Building 3 (Faculty of Letters, Faculty of International Management) and near two buildings which opened on the Tama Campus in April 2020: the GLOBAL GATEWAY CHUO and the International Residence CHUO.
 
At the entrance to the nature-rich Tama Campus, the FOREST GATEWAY CHUO has been established as the new face of Chuo University, a space where all kinds of "wisdom" can be gathered and shared with society, and as a social interaction venue where students can interact with each other, as well as with companies and members of society.

The building is designed to enhance visibility, diversity, and openness. As part of the university's commitment to the SDGs, wood was actively used to create a warm and welcoming space. The energy consumption of the building is more than 50% less than a standard building, and consideration is also given to the natural environment to help reduce carbon dioxide.
 
As shown by the fact that this new building was tentatively called the "Faculty Common Building," a variety of ideas have been devised so that it can be used as a new learning hub for all students at Chuo University.
 
In the new semester starting from April 2021, Chuo University will provide opportunities for students to learn through a combination of face-to-face classes and online classes. Together with the use of existing facilities specialized for each faculty, Chuo University aims to greatly expand new learning under COVID-19 by utilizing the FOREST GATEWAY CHUO which is compatible with the DX (digital transformation).
 
For example, FOREST GATEWAY CHUO is equipped with an interactive conference and class system with large video screens. Many online classes tend to be one-way, with students at home receiving lectures from instructors, but with this system, a new type of online classes becomes possible: students and instructors can gather and hold discussions not only from home, but also between classrooms at Korakuen and other campuses in central Tokyo, as well as with overseas partner universities and other off-campus locations, such as places where club activities are held. By inviting students from overseas to participate, students will be able to deepen their understanding of the diversity in modern society even in the face of COVID-19 and the difficulties of study abroad. 
 
In addition, the lecture rooms, exercise rooms, academic writing labs and halls in the building are open spaces that overturn the conventional idea of classrooms, allowing students, faculty, and staff to gather casually and on a daily basis to learn through interaction and dialogue.
 
FOREST GATEWAY CHUO is open for use from April 2021.
