Coronavirus Control and Prevention Measures at Chuo University

 

Chuo University has established the Chuo University Special Infectious Disease Control Section in conjunction with the President’s Office with the President of Chuo as the Director, and has examined and implemented measures for safety, security, infection prevention, health maintenance, and protecting human dignity, for students, staff and faculty, and other Chuo stakeholders.

 

【Main measures】

・Ensure notification and implementation of basic anti-infection measures, such as hand washing and cough etiquette in order to prevent the spread of infection.

・Place disinfectant dispensers at building and office entrances, and recommend hand sanitizing.

・Recommend careful management of physical health, such as taking body temperature every morning and consulting medical professionals if one’s physical condition worsens, mainly for persons who have frequent contact with students or visitors in offices.

・Work staggered hours (early/late) for employees on campus to avoid traffic congestion.

・Gather and disclose information on Coronavirus under the supervision of the school doctor.

・Careful oversight of matters related to studies for Japanese students studying abroad and international students at Chuo.

・Consideration of implementation of overseas travel programs (Short-term Study Abroad Programs)

・Implementation of close communication with our partner institutions overseas.

・Consider whether to conduct on-campus events and take note of the results of consideration.

 

【Regarding the implementation of events】*

As of February 25, 2020, after careful consideration of the following points and recognizing that the first priority is to prevent the spread of infection, Chuo University has decided to postpone and cancel (including reductions and changes) events scheduled until Friday, March 20. This action is being taken in response to “The Basic Policy on New Coronavirus Infectious Disease Control” (New Coronavirus Infectious Disease Control Section) and “Regarding the holding of graduation and entrance ceremonies, etc.” (as of February 25) from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT).

 

・Eating and drinking (In principle, events with eating and drinking should be considered for cancellation.)

・Size of the event (as a guideline, when exceeding 50 participants careful consideration is required.)

・Age of participants (More attention is required when a large number of elderly people might participate.)

・Participants point of origin (Caution is required when gathering participants from across the region or nation.)

・Identity of participants (Caution is necessary when the identity of participants is unknown.)

・Participation forum (Based on the size of the venue and the number of participants, care must be taken to avoid high density.)

・Duration of the event (Events should be no longer than absolutely necessary.)

・Close contact (Consideration must be given to the type of event, such as lecture, discussion, face-to-face briefings, etc.)

・Substitutability (Consider if postponement or a different format is possible.)

・In addition, organizers should act according to the characteristics of each event.

 

In order to avoid inconvenience to participants and event stakeholders, the organizing section will ensure immediate announcements once decisions are made on the contents and implementation of an event, etc.

* Graduation and entrance ceremonies will be considered separately and decisions will be posted on the Chuo   University official website.

* The above policy applies at the time of publication, and will be updated as needed in a timely manner.

 

To all Chuo University students, staff and faculty

 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has raised the travel alert for Hubei Province and Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province to Level 3 (Reconsider Travel), and for other regions to Level 2 (Avoid Non-essential Travel), due to the new coronavirus. If you are traveling or planning to travel to China, please check various sources of information and consider canceling or postponing your travel.

 The government has classified pneumonia caused by the new coronavirus as a “designated infectious disease,” and the World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the Coronavirus “a Global Health Emergency.”

Please read the following carefully, check the linked information, and implement thorough anti-infection measures, such as hand washing and cough etiquette in order to prevent the spread of infection. If you have any symptoms, please consult a medical institution.

If you have any concerns, please consult your affiliated office or Health Center.

 

【Important】Persons returning to Japan from China

■ If you return from Hubei Province or Zhejiang Province, or have been in contact with persons from Hubei Province or Zhejiang Province:

 1.Please inform the affiliated office at Chuo of your return to Japan.

 2.Within 2 weeks after returning to Japan, if you have a fever of 37.5 degrees Celsius or higher and symptoms of  respiratory illness:

    ・Avoid contact with others, wear a mask, and consult a medical facility immediately.

    ・In addition, please inform your affiliated office at Chuo of the results of your consultation with medical facility.

 3.At the time of returning to Japan, if you do not have a fever of 37.5 degrees Celsius or higher and do not have symptoms of respiratory illness:

    ・Stay home as much as possible for 2 weeks after returning. If any symptoms develop, please follow above 2.

 

■ If you return from China (including Hong Kong and Macau) except Hubei Province or Zhejiang Province, and have not been in contact with persons from Hubei Province or Zhejiang Province:

1.Within 2 weeks after returning to Japan, if you have a fever of 37.5 degrees Celsius or higher and symptoms of respiratory illness:

  ・Avoid contact with others, wear a mask, and consult a medical institution immediately.

  ・In addition, please inform your affiliated office at Chuo of your return to Japan, and the results of any medical consultation.

2.At the time of returning to Japan, if you do not have a fever of 37.5 degrees Celsius or higher and symptoms of respiratory illness:

  ・For 2 weeks after returning to Japan, please continue to observe your health carefully. If you have any symptoms, please follow above 1.
