Prof. Hirano and Prof. Sudoh attend the meeting of the AI expert group at the OECD at MIT

The Director of the Preparatory Office for the Faculty of Global Informatics, Professor Susumu Hirano and Professor Osamu Sudoh, (who will take up the post of Professor at Chuo University Faculty of Global Informatics and is currently Professor of the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies, University of Tokyo), have attended a meeting of the AI expert group at the OECD (AIGO) (*1), to share, on behalf of Japan, the “Draft AI R&D Guidelines for International Discussions” and “Draft AI Utilization Principles” announced by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) (*2), which two of the professors participated in for the preparation of the drafts.

AIGO held its third meeting on January 16 to 17, 2019, at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston. On January 15, the day before the meeting, MIT invited the AIGO members of/to the “MIT AI Policy Congress. (*3)”

At the “MIT AI Policy Congress,” Prof. Sudoh introduced the “Draft Principles of Human-centric AI society (*5),” prepared by the “Study Group on Human-Centric AI Principles (*4)” of the Cabinet Office of Japan, where Prof. Sudoh served as a Chairperson, and Prof. Hirano served as a member. At the meeting of the AIGO, Prof. Sudoh and Prof. Hirano insisted that the “Draft Principles of Human-centric AI society” is reflected in the draft principles on AI prepared by OECD.

They received great interest in Japan’s “Draft Principles of Human-centric AI society” from AIGO members from overseas at the meeting, as well as from other participants at “MIT AI Policy Congress,” which was a great success.
