Joint Seminar held with Tsinghua University in China

On December 13, 2018, a joint seminar was held between Chuo University and Tsinghua University, at Tsinghua University in China.

The joint seminar marked the 40th anniversary of the conclusion of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between Japan and China as well as the 15th anniversary of the signing of a comprehensive agreement between Chuo and Tsinghua.

From Chuo, President Tadahiko Fukuhara, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Satoshi Hoshino, Dean of the Chuo Graduate School of Strategic Management, Hiroshi Nakamura, Professor Li Tingjiang of the Faculty of Law, and Professor Akio Tsuchida of the Faculty of Economics participated. From Tsinghua, President Yong Qiu, Secretary of the Party Committee, Professor Li Hong, Professor Liu Guozhong of the School of Humanities, Department of History, Professor Wang Zhongchen of the School of Humanities took part, and from Fudan University, Professor Chen Jian’an of the School of Economics (who will take up the post of Professor at Chuo University Faculty of Global Management in April, 2019), attended.

The seminar started with opening remarks by Chuo’s President Tadahiko Fukuhara, followed by a discussion on “innovation cooperation between Japan and China and future prospects,”  to talk about the shape of further exchange between both countries based on academic exchange, from the perspective of each university’s area of specialization, where participants had a lively exchange of views.

Chuo University and Tsinghua University signed a comprehensive agreement on academic exchange between the two institutions in 2003, and since then student and research exchange has been promoted. On July 23, 2018, a total of about 170 people from Tsinghua University visited the Tama Campus for an honorary doctorate award ceremony for the President of Tsinghua University, Qiu Yong, the signing ceremony of the student and researcher exchange agreement between Chuo University’s Faculty of Law, Graduate School of Law, and Tsinghua University School of Law, and the signing ceremony of the memorandum of understanding.

The joint seminar was planned and arranged as a researcher exchange, an opportunity that came about as the result of the relationship between both universities, and it is expected that the wide-ranging relationship between the two universities will become stronger in the future.
