he Director of the Preparatory Office for the Faculty of Global Informatics, Professor Susumu Hirano and Professor Osamu Sudoh, (who will take up the post of Professor at Chuo University Faculty of Global Informatics and is currently Professor of the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies, University of Tokyo), attended a meeting of the AI expert group at the OECD (AIGO) in Paris, to share with it the proposal of Japan’s Cabinet Office and Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
Prof. Hirano and Prof. Sudoh have introduced draft guidelines on AI development at the OECD on behalf of Japan. Due in part to their efforts, the OECD started work to incorporate draft principles on AI.

The AI expert group at the OECD (AIGO) (*1) held its second meeting on November 12, 2018, at the OECD headquarters in Paris, to view the draft principles on AI. Prof. Hirano and Prof. Sudoh were the researchers attending the meeting on behalf of Japan as AIGO members (*2).
At the meeting, Prof. Hirano and Prof. Sudoh introduced the outline of the “Draft AI R&D Guidelines for International Discussions” announced in 2017 and the “Draft AI Utilization Principles” announced in July, 2018, by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications’ (MIC) Conference toward AI Network Society, where Prof. Sudoh served as Chairperson, and Prof. Hirano served as Secretary and Chairperson of the committee on AI R&D Principles. They also shared discussions of the Study Group on Human-Centric AI Principles of the Cabinet Office of Japan, where Prof. Sudoh served as Chairperson, and Prof. Hirano served as a member, insisting on reflecting the suggestions by MIC and the Cabinet Office of Japan in draft principles on AI prepared by OECD.
They received recognition for Japan’s contribution from AIGO members from overseas at the meeting, which was a great success.
