Comprehensive Agreement Concluded with St. Marianna University School of Medicine

On March 23 representatives of Chuo University and the St. Marianna University School of Medicine signed a comprehensive agreement on academic exchange between the two institutions.

Ceremony participants from the St. Marianna University School of Medicine included President, Shoichi Ozaki, Dean of the Medical School, Tomohiro Kato, Chairperson of the Curriculum Committee, Sachihiko Nobuoka, Chair of the Integrated Educational Subjects Committee, Sanae Narita, Professor of Forensic Medicine, Toshiji Mukai, and Visiting Professor, Hiroe Fukushima. Participants from Chuo University included Chancellor and President, Shozaburo Sakai, Vice-President, Yasuyo Nakajima, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Satoshi Hoshino, Dean of the Graduate School of Law, Makoto Arai, Professor of the Faculty of Law, Hirokiyo Furuta, and Director of Academic Affairs Office, Shoko Tani.

Although law and issues of medical care greatly overlap, Chuo University does not yet offer medical courses, nor does it have institutes focused on researching the reality of medicine in society and the legal issues of medical settings. Conversely, St. Marianna University School of Medicine has no full-time instructors offering law-related courses. Therefore this comprehensive agreement was concluded in order to enable academic exchange and to develop comprehensive partnership activities utilizing the strengths of both universities, to foster legal and medical specialists highly capable of valuable social contributions. The agreement is expected to ensure unique and useful educational opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students at both universities, as well as more opportunities for collaborative research and symposia conducted by the faculties of both universities.
