Prof. Megata Attends the Third Japan-Mexico University President’s Conference

The Third Japan-Mexico University President’s Conference was held in Hiroshima from November 30 to December 1, 2017, where Professor Shuichiro Megata of Chuo University’s Law Faculty and a former Japanese Ambassador to Mexico, having served from 2011 to 2014, attended. The conference, held alternately in Japan and Mexico every three years, has attracted the participation of leading universities both from Japan and Mexico to promote student and research exchange between both countries, as well as industry-academia-government collaboration. This year, 30 universities and relevant organizations from Japan and 39 from Mexico participated in the conference, with a total of 150 participants gathering together.

The conference was held under the theme of “Collaboration for Innovation: Academy, Industry and Government Working Together”, with four sessions, each addressing issues such as “Industry-academia-government Collaboration”, “Collaboration in Research”, “Student Exchange as a Basis of the Collaboration”, and “Future-oriented Japan-Mexico Universities Collaboration”. Prof. Megata gave a presentation in the “Future-oriented Japan-Mexico Universities Collaboration” session, introducing Chuo’s efforts during the 8th International Week, which was focused on Mexico and held in December, 2016, as well as a co-publishing project with the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), based on his experience as Japanese Ambassador to Mexico. He also talked about the future outlook of exchange between both countries.

Chuo has partnership agreements with two major universities in Mexico, and it is expected that the exchange at the conference will help to promote student and research exchange, as well as industry-academia-government collaboration.

The next conference is to be held at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) in 2019.
