Chuo VP visits EBRD in London

Chuo University Vice President and International Center Director, Chikako Takeishi, visited the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on February 3, 2017.
 
Vice President Takeishi met with Mr. Yosuke Kawakami, Board Director for Japan, and discussed Japan’s role in sustaining the global community and environment, and internationalization of education worldwide.
 
Later the same day, Vice President Takeishi met with members of the Environmental and Sustainability Department, including Dr. Alistair Clark, Managing Director of Environmental and Sustainability Department, Dr. Dariusz Prasek, Director of Operations, Ms. Michaela S. Bergman, Chief Counsellor for Social Issues, and Ms. Nobuko Ichikawa, Principal Environmental Advisor. Their discussions covered the potential for collaboration in various areas, ranging from sustainability to diversity.
 
One key area the EBRD team and Chuo have agreed to collaborate on is impact assessment education, which is crucial for the sustainability of the global community, to ensure we are aware of the possible environmental and social impacts of our activities. This collaboration will provide valuable support for Chuo’s new undergraduate program, called Global LEAP, starting in April 2017. The Global LEAP Program will focus on developing sustainability awareness of various environmental and social issues. Recognizing that EBRD’s Environmental and Social Policy, which won the IAIA 2015 Corporate Initiative Award, will be used as a guiding document in the Global LEAP Program, the EBRD Environmental and Sustainability Department Team agreed to collaborate on Chuo’s delivery of the Global LEAP summer sessions starting in the summer of 2017.
 
The meetings ended following fruitful discussions that covered other areas of collaboration as well, including diversity issues concerning indigenous peoples and gender.
