New Year’s Greetings from the Chancellor and President

Happy New Year! I extend my warmest greetings to you all.
Chuo University was established in 1885 under the philosophy of “Fostering the Ability to Apply Knowledge to Practice”, and we are committed to carrying on our tradition of providing a practical education based on empirical and rational thinking. The young attorneys who founded the former English Law School, which is now Chuo University, believed that understanding and knowledge of rational and practical British law was indispensable for the establishment of the judicial system and modernization of Japan. Today, as one of Japan’s leading universities, we are proud to pursue Chuo’s mission of practical education.
Recognizing that Chuo University will commemorate its 140th anniversary in 2025, last year we released Chuo Vision 2025, a development plan that includes relocation of the Law faculty, establishment of multiple new faculties, continued promotion of global initiatives, and promotion of sports.
Chuo University will continue to strive to meet the demands of society as a comprehensive institution, and contribute to society in many fields of study and through research activities. Chuo will strive for excellence and continue to develop its historical and newly emerging institutional strengths in order to make a deeper and lasting contribution to global society.
Committed to another year of growth and development, we promise our sincere efforts, and I would like to ask all students, faculty, staff, alumni and Chuo community stakeholders for your understanding, cooperation and support to ensure that 2017 is an even more dynamic and successful year.
