Hawaii Office Opening & Workshop

Chuo University commemorated the opening of its first overseas hub, “Chuo University Pacific Office,” at the East West Center, University of Hawai’i at Manoa on Friday, March 7, 2014.

The opening ceremony was attended by a total of 57 participants, including honorable guests, Chuo exchange students studying at UHM, UHM students, and members of the East West Center. Consul General of Japan and Chuo alumna, Toyoei Shigeeda gave a guest speech.

A workshop on “Pioneers of GLOBAL human resources: learn from experiences of Japanese-Americans in Hawai’i” was held by Chuo Faculty of Letters Professor Takeo Morimo and University of Hawai’i at Hilo Associate Professor Masafumi Honda, after the opening
ceremony. The lectures focused on the relationships of Japanese-Americans and the Hawai’ian culture and history, as well as the contributions they have made.

The students who attended participated in an active discussion after experiencing a taste of Hawai’i’s history and culture that greatly differed from their home country.

Chuo University’s office in Hawai’i is open every day except Fridays and Saturdays, from 13:00-17:00 (may be subject to change), and ready to support the students joining many different programs in the future!
