Academic Conference in Korea

On Thursday, September 12, President Fukuhara of Chuo University gave a keynote speech at the International Academic Conference between Japan, China, and South Korea, held at Incheon.
The conference was sponsored by the Incheon Development Institute and the Northeast Asian History Foundation, focusing on the central theme of “Cross-border Cooperation and Peace in the Yellow Sea Region.”
President Fukuhara of Chuo gave a speech on “The Future of Cross-border Higher Education Policy- Development of Human Resources in Japan, China, and Korea.”
During the special interview that took place following the speech, President Fukuhara stressed on the importance of building a new paradigm for academic and cultural exchange between Japan, China, and Korea. “The cross-border higher education policy in Asia does not adhere to that of the United States or Europe. It should not follow the economic trend, nor should it be developed for the purpose of creating a commonwealth. In order to build a sustainable international society with a foundation of advanced knowledge, there must be a shared system of improvement in educational skills as well as enhancement in the quality of education, by implementing the principle of market mechanism. It is necessary to become a flexible, cross-border higher education born in Asia that realizes the development of global human resources, which values the uniqueness and diversity of different countries and regions.”
The conference was divided in three sessions, followed by a joint discussion where Vice President Sato joined to conclude the International Academic Conference. President Fukuhara met with Young-gil Song, Mayor of Incheon Metropolitan City, Sung-Eul Choi, President of University of Incheon, Min-Bae Kim, President of the Incheon Development Institute, Hak Joon Kim, President of the Northeast Asian History Foundation, as well as intellectuals from Korea and China, and multiple media. There was a special coverage in the local media “Daily Incheon” which demonstrated the high interest of the local people.
On Friday, September 13, President Fukuhara visited Inha University, and met with Choonbae Park, President and Sihwan Park, Dean of Inha University College of Law, to discuss the future collaboration between the universities.
