Students Visit from City University of New York

As part of the student exchange project “KAKEHASHI Project”, run by Japan’s Foreign Ministry, 46 students from City University of New York (CUNY) visited the Chuo University Tama campus.

After arriving by bus the participants gathered in Building 3. There, following a welcome speech by Ryoji Kasai, Dean of the Faculty of Literature, Paul Rodriguez, Erin King, and Adrian Machuca spoke to the CUNY students.

Later, Yuto Iino of Banking and Corporate Finance, Faculty of Commerce, and Mai Nakamura of Marketing and Trade, Faculty of Commerce, representing Chuo University, explained to the CUNY students the attractive aspects of Chuo.

Finally, an interactive session was held with Chuo and CUNY students. Participants were divided into five groups with four concurrent lecturers from the Faculty of Letters, Chiyoko Tanaka, Naoko Masuda, Ayako Sudo, and Minako Sunaga, and Fumiko Kurihara, Associate Professor in the Faculty of Commerce. Although the participants were rather nervous as the session began, the ice was broken as the small-group discussions got underway, and soon there were smiling faces everywhere.

Time flew by as the 50-minute exchange session ended and all the students headed to Building 11, where faculty members joined them on the steps outside for a group photo. Despite the short, two-hour stay, both CUNY and Chuo students had a productive experience.
