Professor Miwa Ota of Department of English Studies will appear at the poetry reading of the anthology of poems “No Jail Can Confine Your Poem.”

Ahead of the world, Japan has published the anthology “No Jail Can Confine Your Poem – A Poetic Protest Against Censorship and Suppression of Art in Afghanistan,” in response to the Afghanistan poet in exile, Somaia Ramish’s call toward the world poets, to participate in poetic protests against the Afghanistan Taliban regime forbidding poetry in the country. The Japan P.E.N. Club also acknowledges and introduces the purpose of this book on X (ex Twitter).

Following the poetry reading held at Asahikawa, Hokkaido, in August to commemorate the publication of the anthology, another poetry reading will take place in October at Yokohama. Please join us and think about Afghanistan, Japan and the world through enjoying poetry. We look forward to meeting you at the venue!
