【要　旨】

 

This paper examines that why labor share is falling recently, using Basic Survey of Japanese Business Structure and Activities, which has a wealth of information on a sample of Japanese firms including detailed outsourcing information. The results can be summarized as follows. First, not all the firms uniformly decrease their labor share. Second, the proportion of value-added produced by firms with relatively low labor share is increasing. Third, estimation results show that the increase in valueadded share is negatively correlated with the change in the labor share, imply that the results are consistent with “superstar” firm model (Autor et al. (2017)). Fourth, although the change in import intensity is not negatively correlated with the change in labor share, starting import decreases labor share. Fifth, although starting import may not decrease number of employees, starting import may decrease the share of on-site workers.
