テーマ　：　On crosslinguistic phonological influence into L3 English—intralinguistic and extralinguistic factors

要　旨　：This presentation is concerned with crosslinguistic influence into English when there are two possible accent sources: A heritage language, which has been acquired from birth and is the chronological L1, and a chronological L2, which has also been acquired during childhood and is often the participants stronger (more proficient) language. Two studies will be presented. Study 1 will be concerned with German-Turkish speakers and their global accents. Results show that participants are generally perceived to have a German accent when speaking English, which suggests that CLI is driven by typological proximity. However, a few participants are perceived to have Turkish accents, and they happen to be those with a dominance in Turkish. Thus, extralinguistic factors need to be taken into account, as they can override linguistic factors, such as typological proximity. The second study will be concerned with German-Italian speakers and their production of Voice Onset Time (VOT). VOT differs between German and Italian, so that depending on the source of transfer VOT values in English will look different (if transferred). Although speakers produce different VOTs in German and Italian, their English VOTs are consistently in line with German rather than Italian. Based on this study, we will discuss the potential role of typological proximity and markedness.
