[Faculty of Global Management] Prof. Shiaw Jia Eyo gave a special lecture at Business Finance class (instructor: George Wang)

Prof. Shiaw Jia Eyo, a respected member of Hosei University's Faculty of Global and Interdisciplinary Studies (GIS), brings a wealth of experience from both academia and the financial industry. She earned her PhD from Hitotsubashi University in 2011, following undergraduate and MBA degrees from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, USA. Before transitioning to academia, she worked as a financial analyst in the United States and as a venture capitalist in Malaysia. Her academic career began in 2011 as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Hitotsubashi University. She joined GIS in 2012 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2016. Since 2015, she has taught a wide range of business courses, including Finance, Investment, Marketing, International Business, and Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

In her lecture titled "Introduction to Stock Investing," Prof. Eyo offered a thorough overview of the key principles of stock market investing. She outlined the structure and functions of financial markets, introduced major global stock exchanges and indexes, and explained how investors earn returns through capital gains and dividends. She contrasted growth and value investing strategies and emphasized the significance of both fundamental and technical analysis. Key financial indicators—such as the PE ratio, EPS, profit margin, and RSI—were introduced as tools to assess stock performance. She also reviewed the historical performance of stock markets, particularly in the U.S. and Japan, and analyzed the recent trends of notable stocks in those regions.

Students responded enthusiastically to Prof. Eyo’s clear and engaging presentation. Her ability to break down complex financial concepts and relate them to real-world scenarios made the lecture especially impactful. The practical examples and current market insights she shared helped students connect theory to practice. Her discussion of various investing strategies, along with her balanced focus on both technical and fundamental analysis, offered students a comprehensive introduction to stock investing. Prof. Eyo’s talk not only deepened students’ understanding but also sparked interest in pursuing further study in finance and investment. Overall, her presentation was informative, accessible, and truly inspiring.
