【Faculty of Global Management】Prof. Shiaw Jia Eyo gave speech on stock investing during Business Finance course

On June 10th, prof. Shiaw Jia Eyo from Hosei University gave a lecture as a guest speaker during Business Finance course (course instructor: George Wang).
Prof. Shiaw Jia Eyo, an esteemed academic at Hosei University's Faculty of Global and Interdisciplinary Studies (GIS), boasts a distinguished career that spans academia and industry. She earned her PhD from Hitotsubashi University in 2011, following her undergraduate and MBA degrees from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, USA. Before embarking on her academic journey, she worked as a financial analyst in the US and a venture capitalist in Malaysia.
In 2011, she began her academic career as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Hitotsubashi University and subsequently joined GIS in 2012 as an Assistant Professor, later being promoted to Associate Professor in 2016. Prof. Eyo has been teaching a range of business courses, including Finance, Investment, Marketing, International Business, and Entrepreneurship and Innovation, contributing significantly to the academic community at GIS since 2015.
In her speech titled "Introduction to Stock Investing," Prof. Eyo provided a comprehensive overview of the fundamentals of stock market investing. She explained the structure and function of financial markets, highlighting major global stock exchanges and stock indexes. Prof. Eyo covered essential concepts such as how investors can make money through capital appreciation and dividends, and the differences between growth and value investing strategies. She also delved into the importance of fundamental and technical analysis, explaining key metrics like PE ratio, EPS, profit margin, and RSI, which help investors evaluate stock performance. Additionally, she discussed the historical performance of stock markets, with a particular focus on the US and Japanese markets, and offered insights into the recent performance of notable stocks within these markets.
The students responded very positively to Prof. Eyo’s detailed and engaging presentation. They appreciated her ability to simplify complex financial concepts and found her practical examples and analysis of current market trends particularly valuable. The discussion on different investing strategies and the emphasis on both fundamental and technical analysis provided the students with a well-rounded understanding of stock investing. The real-world applications and case studies she presented were instrumental in helping students grasp the intricacies of the stock market, inspiring many to explore further into the field of finance and investment.
