本学法学部のスティーヴン・ヘッセ教授が、2026年3月末日をもってご退職されます。その最終講義が去る1月17日、茗荷谷キャンパスにて対面・オンラインのハイブリッド形式で開催されました。
「Looking back, moving forward」と題された本講義は、一方的な講義形式ではなく、対話を重視する教授の教育哲学を反映し、複数のゲストスピーカーとのセッション形式で行われました。
当日は、教授の薫陶を受け世界で活躍する卒業生たちが登壇し、自身のキャリアについて発表。それに対しヘッセ教授がご自身の経験と教訓を語りかける、対話による特別な授業が展開されました。
会場には学生、卒業生、教職員に加え、ご家族やご友人も含め約200名が参加。教室内に留まらず海外からのオンライン参加も多数あり、教授が長年にわたり築き上げてきた国境を越えた絆の深さを象徴する機会となりました。

Professor Stephen Hesse will be retiring at the end of March 2026. His final lecture was held on January 17th at the Myogadani Campus in a hybrid format, connecting the classroom with online attendees.
Titled "Looking back, moving forward," the lecture moved away from a traditional one-sided style. Reflecting Professor Hesse’s teaching philosophy which prioritizes dialogue, the event was conducted as an interactive session featuring multiple guest speakers.
During the lecture, alumni, who have been greatly influenced by the Professor and are now active on the global stage shared their stories and their careers. In response, Professor Hesse shared his own life experiences and lessons, creating a unique class defined by deep interaction.
Nearly 200 people attended, including students, alumni, colleagues, family, and friends. With many participants joining online from overseas, the event reflects the deep, cross-border bonds that Professor Hesse has cultivated over the years.
