AIを利用した世界の廃プラ政策動向

2021～2025年度

プラスチック汚染と海洋ごみ問題は地球規模の新たな課題である。いま世界130カ国以上で、使い捨てプラスチックの使用規制やプラスチックのリサイクルへの対策が検討、実施されている。しかし2020年からのコロナ対策による宅配サービスの増加などで、廃プラスチック量も増加し、関連規制の実施延期など状況が日々変化している。
そこで、本学部の佐々木創は人工知能（AI）を活用することで、廃プラ政策動向を常時モニタリングし、データベース化し、将来的に政策評価を行い効果的な削減政策を導出する研究を実施中である。
2022年11月23日に開催された16th Asia Pacific Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Productionという国際会議の中で、国連環境計画（UNEP）とアジア工科大学（AIT）が主催したサイド・イベント “Plastic-Free Rivers for Resilient Riverine Communities” に経済学部の佐々木創が招聘され講演した。

Plastic pollution and marine waste are emerging global issues. More than 130 countries around the world are now considering and implementing measures to regulate the use of single-use plastics and to recycle plastics. However, the situation is changing day by day. The amount of waste plastic is increasing partly because of the increase in home delivery services due to the COVID-19 measures started in 2020, which is resulting in the postponement of the implementation of related regulations and others.
In response to this, Professor Sasaki is currently conducting research on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to constantly monitor waste plastic policy trends, compile a database, and to conduct policy evaluations in the future to identify effective waste reduction policies.
Professor So Sasaki of the Faculty of Economics was invited to speak at a side event, “Plastic-Free Rivers for Resilient Riverine Communities,” organized by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) during the international conference called “16th Asia Pacific Roundtable on Sustainable Consumption and Production held on 23 NOV, 2022
