多様な授業形態を通じた、社会のあらゆる環境にある人への法学教育の提供

2002年度～

本学法学部通信教育課程では、年齢が10歳代から70歳代以上、様々な職業、居住地も全国各地から海外、多様なバックボーンを持った学生約4,000名が学んでいる。本課程は1948年に開設されたが、古くは、本学が1885年に英吉利法律学校として創設されたと同時に、遠隔地で通学できない学生のために校外生制度を設け、『講義録』を送ったところにルーツを持ち、社会のあらゆる環境の人へ「法科の中央」の質の高い法学教育を提供してきた。

大学における通信教育は、伝統的には、教科書読解、レポート作成と添削指導、対面スクーリングという授業形態であった。本課程では、対面スクーリングに加え、2002年度にオンライン活用を始め、2005年度には、当時は高等教育機関として先進的だった「オンデマンド・スクーリング」を開始した。以来、自宅等どこからでもスクーリングを受講できる環境が整備され、国内外各地で多くの学生が学修している。「オンデマンド・スクーリング」は、2005年度3科目で開始し、2022年度には23科目まで科目を広げており、定期的に更新を行いながら最新の授業を整備している。これらは本学法学部専任教員と法科大学院専任教員が担当している。

対面スクーリングに加え、これまで15年以上にわたり、オンラインを活用した多様な授業形態での教育環境を整備してきたが、今後も継続して、社会のあらゆる人へ法学教育を提供していく。

2002～

The correspondence (distance learning) course of the Faculty of Law at Chuo University has approximately 4,000 students with diverse backgrounds, ranging in age from 10 to over 70, from various occupations, and from all over the country to overseas. Although this course was established in 1948, it has its roots in 1885, when the school was founded as the Igirisu Horitsu Gakko (English Law School). It launched an off-campus learning system for students who could not commute to the school due to distance, and sent "Lecture Notes" to them to provide high-quality legal education to people from all backgrounds in society.
Traditionally, distance learning at universities took the form of classes consisting of textbook reading, report writing and correction guidance, and face-to-face schooling. In addition to face-to-face schooling, we began to use online facilities (2002) and launched "on-demand schooling"(2005), which was an advanced system for higher education institutions at the time. Since then, an environment has been provided where students can take schooling from anywhere including their homes, and many students have studied at various locations in Japan and abroad. The "on-demand schooling" program, which started with three courses in 2005, has expanded to 23 courses by 2022 and is being updated regularly. These are taught by full-time members of Chuo’s Faculty of Law and the Chuo JD Law School. Based on more than 15 years of experience in developing an educational environment with a variety of online class formats in addition to face-to-face classes, we will continue to provide legal education to all members of society.
