取り組み概要、意義、成果

■2022年11月17日（木）の総合講座１「グローバル化する世界と多言語主義 2」において、SDG 4に関連して「多言語社会インドの言語政策と教育」と題し、市民社会での先住民の母語教育について、また24日（木）には「南アジアの言語政策と教育言語」として、パキスタン、バングラデシュ、ネパール、ブータンの教育と言語について講義を行った。多言語社会である南アジア諸国について比較検討しながら、学生は言語を軸とした教育機会の平等性、言語の持つ「経済性」などについて議論し、考察した。多言語と社会階層の結びつき、学校で使用するためには言語の近代化と教員養成が必要であることなど、SDG4 「包摂的で公正な教育」に伴う複雑な背景について、学生たちは理解を深めた。

■2022年春学期と秋学期の英語特設クラスで、”SDGs and Global Issues/映像メディアで学ぶSDGs”を使用した授業を実施した。SDGs 1-17に関する英語の記事やニュース映像を通して、学生はSDGsの内容や、各国での取り組みなどについて理解を深めた。

■2022年のBasic Research and DiscussionおよびElective Englishの授業で、SDGsに関連する課題について学生が英語でリサーチし、例えば貧困、食糧問題、地球規模の医療課題、教育、ジェンダー平等、労働、持続可能な消費活動、海洋保全などについて、英語で発表を行った。

Overview of initiatives, significance, and results

■On Thursday, November 17, I gave a lecture, “Language Education in Multilingual India: English & Indigenous Language Education,” in Sougou Koza 1, Multilingualism Issues in a Globalizing World 2. The lecture is about mother tongue education operated by an indigenous group in East India. Another lecture the following week was “Language Policies and the Media of Instruction in South Asia,” in which I talked about the language policies in Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan. Through a comparison of different language policies in multilingual South Asia, the students discussed educational equality, the economic aspects of language use, and the connection between language statuses and social classes. As a result, they understood the complex issues related to language policies which could hinder SDG 4, “Ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education for all”.

■In English Tokusetsu class, the students learned about SDGs using a textbook, “SDGs and Global Issues.” The articles and videos enhanced their understanding of SDGs 1-17, initiatives, and efforts introduced in various countries.

■In Basic Research and Discussion and Elective English, the students chose SDG-related topics for their research activities based on their interests. For example, they researched and presented issues on poverty, food security, global health issues, education, gender equality, labor, sustainable consumer behaviors, marine conservation, etc.
