取り組み概要、意義、成果

COVID-19パンデミックの影響を受け、世界的に移動の制限がかけられている現在でも、インターネットを介した交流等により、社会のグローバル化は進む一方である。グローバル社会を生き抜くスキルを身につけるべく、オンラインによる異文化交流教育を実施する。具体的には、オンライン・ミーティングシステムを用いて日本と海外の学校をリアルタイムで結び、英語によるコミュニケーションで異文化交流を体験する。本取り組みでは、そのためのコミュニティ構築、交流プログラムの策定、評価指標の開発、活動を包括的に支援するITシステムの提案などを行い、実際に異文化教育を実施した。なお、海外の相手校は、時差の影響を極力受けず、かつ、第二言語として英語を用いる国や地域を中心に人的ネットワークを構築し、そのネットワークを介してマッチングしたものである。また、一連の教育プログラム原案とルーブリックを提案し、実施を記録しサポートするためのシステムDialogbookも開発した。

Overview of initiatives, significance, and results

Although the COVID-19 pandemic has severely restricted global mobility, the globalization of society continues to advance through exchanges via the Internet. To cultivate the skills needed to survive in a global society, we have implemented online intercultural exchange programs. Specifically, we used online meeting systems to connect schools in Japan with partner schools overseas in real-time for students to experience genuine intercultural exchange through communication in English. Through this initiative, we have built a human resources network, formulated exchange programs, developed evaluation indicators, and initiated an IT system to support the activities comprehensively. With all these pieces in place, we carried out several international collaboration courses. The overseas partner schools were matched through the network established among schools in Japan and others in countries and regions least affected by time zone differences with Japan where English is also used as a second/foreign language. In on in the pre-entrance ceremony (an event of the Faculty of Science and Engineering: a social gathering before the entrance ceremony for female students only) and exchange meetings.
