Advancement of urban flood control has been required considering climate change, and water quality management is also expected in urban waterfronts such as Odaiba Marine Park. In the research unit, we conduct research on the advancement of urban stormwater management from a wide range of viewpoints, quantifying the function of the urban drainage system as an urban water infrastructure. By performing water level observation in drainage pipes using ICT, we improve the accuracy of flood model prediction. We also aim to optimize real-time control of drainage facilities such as pumps and gates through better evaluation of flood risk. In addition, we challenge the development of a bathing forecast system in urban coastal areas based on prediction of fecal contamination by combined sewer overflows. We also conduct research to evaluate flood damage reduction effects and capture effects of micro-plastics in stormwater runoff control facilities including green infrastructure. |
