- テーマ:Journeys of the Self in Virginia Woolf's To the Lighthouse
講 師:Dr. Stefano Evangelista (University of Oxford)
発表要旨: To the Lighthouse (1927) is a pioneering modernist novel in which Virginia Woolf experiments with an impressionistic style that captures the subjective nature of reality by means of narrative fragmentation and an intensely lyrical prose. Set on the island of Skye, off the Scottish coast, in the years around the First World War, the novel weaves together private and public history. It is an autobiographical meditation in which Woolf looks back on her childhood and reflects on her ongoing anxieties as writer; but it is also an analysis of the effects of the war on British society and, more broadly, of how historical change affects families and communities.
